Twenty-five years ago I applied myself to historical and philosophical approaches to the study of religion under the direction of scholars such as Elie Wiesel, but as I grew into adulthood, exposure to yogic and Buddhist practices showed me heart-based ways of feeling into life, and the Wisdom Traditions became a source of personal support.
I have been teaching yoga for a decade now, completing several certifications and eventually mentoring other teachers along the way. Most recently I earned yoga and mindfulness certification from the Insight Yoga Institute and a personal endorsement by its founder, Sarah Powers. Through the Institute's trainings and retreats, as well as through my work with students and clients, I've gained experience guiding meditation and spiritual inquiry, both of great benefit to people in the throes of change. I am currently enrolled in a 2-year meditation teaching program with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. Here is a list of my trainings and certifications:
By retreating annually with esteemed dharma teachers, paying attention to the evolving relationship of Buddhism and psychology, and working to uncover unconscious bias, I endeavor to keep my practice and teaching fresh and responsive. I also apply myself to step-mothering, science book editing, and making music with friends. You can find me in the Boston area except for summers, when I relocate to my cottage in upstate New York.
